The NSF NCAR Convergence Science Program (CSP) aims to accelerate NSF NCAR’s leadership role in enabling and conducting convergence for the Earth Systems Science (ESS) community. To meet this goal, we lead several key efforts to build clarity around what convergence is and how it’s done, enhance our capacity to conduct convergence in the Earth systems science community, and to foster new convergence efforts that are important for our field.

These goals are addressed by the Program’s work in and across the Program’s four components:  

  1. Strengthening foundations of convergence - understanding, value, support, and data
  2. Developing workforce and organizational capacity for conducting ESS-related convergence
  3. Fostering convergence research at NSF NCAR and for the ESS community
  4. Engagement and relationship building
