The CSF Discovery Workshop Report
As part of the work to shape and design the NSF NCAR Community Software Facility (CSF), the CSF team held a workshop that convened internal and external experts. The CSF Discovery Workshop: Scientific software better practices, tools, and culture, was hosted at NSF NCAR in August 2025 with the overarching goal of identifying strategies for building productive collaborations between scientists and software engineers (co-development) and cultivating supportive environments that enable software engineers to thrive. The workshop gathered insights on:
- Large-scale co-development successes and lessons learned
- Identify better practices for collaborative development
- Understand how to balance competing demands
- Explore strategies for setting projects up for long-term success
- Tools that support co-development
- Opportunities for professional development for RSEs
- Approaches to leading through cultural change
We are proud to announce that our workshop report has been published and is now available. Thank you to everyone who participated and provided input.
